Hi,
I got a mail today saying that my tunnel was down, and it appears I've been deducted points as a result. However, the tunnel is up, has been for a while - unfortunately this means I now have to wait a further 3 weeks before requesting a subnet.
Was there a problem with something?
Andy.

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
As I mentioned previously, the tunnel has been up for over a week. The e-mail I received says:-
Last known responding: 2007-05-22 21:34:13
As soon as I read this, I tested the connectivity (to the other end of the tunnel) and didn't find any problems. I've left a continuous ping going all night from my end to the remote end, with 0% packet loss.
I have already read the FAQ, and I understand the purpose of the e-mail, but my point is that the tunnel has been stable, yet your monitoring has marked it as down.
Andy.

It is far from stable, check the graph of the tunnel on the tunnel information page.
That it responds sometimes, doesn't mean that it is 'up'.

As I said in my previous response: "I've left a continuous ping going all night from my end to the remote end, with 0% packet loss". That is, not a single packet dropped.
As for the graphs, they appear to be incorrect anyway - for the time that the tunnel is supposedly down, it shows a variable latency (between 35ms to 60ms). If the tunnel is (as you say) down, how can it be getting a response to measure latency?
Andy.

Indeed, in the last part of the graph where you kept that ping running the graph doesn't show loss. In the rest of the graph there is continues loss except for a few split seconds where some packets came through.

It seems to be the case that your monitoring only seems to work whilst I am pinging across the tunnel - any ideas as to why this is so?

Yes, please read the FAQ it is explained in there.
