SIXXS main page link error
Carmen Sandiego on Thursday, 31 December 2009 12:02:35
I found a small glich in the sixxs main page.
When using "www.ipv6.sixxs.net" as the URL, the link pointing to the secure web site "Enter Secure website" points to www.sixxs.net instead of www.ipv6.sixxs.net.
In Vista, this will send the user to the IPV4 site since www.sixxs.net resolves to a IPV4 address.
When just waiting in a SSL session, the redirection is correct to https://www.ipv6.sixx.net and browsing will stay in IPV6-land.
Thank you.

Which exact URL do you mean? Also, note that the www.(ipv4|ipv6).sixxs.net hosts are convenience URLs, you should in general not use them. If you have to use them, then something is broken on your end that you should fix.
In Vista, this will send the user to the IPV4 site since www.sixxs.net resolves to a IPV4 address.
- What does Vista have to do with DNS resolution?
- www.sixxs.net has both A and AAAA

What do you mean with "waiting in a SSL session" ?
Also, don't you mean https://www.ipv6.sixxs.net noting the extra S?

I use Vista over a Teredo tunnel.
The DNS seems ok:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.m.sixxs.net
Addresses: 2001:838:1:1:210:dcff:fe20:7c7c
213.204.193.2
193.109.122.244
Aliases: www.sixxs.net
Since the A address takes precedence in DNS lookups, when i use "www.sixxs.net" the browser use the ipv4 address.
So i use www.ipv6.sixxs.net to get ipv6 access, which doesn't resolve to ipv4.
The first page on sixxs, www.sixxs.net" is just the Sixxs logo with some small icons and 2 links, one to http://www.sixxs.net/main and one to https://www.sixxs.net/main.
When using https://www.ipv6.sixxs.net or http://www.ipv6.sixxs.net, the first link, to the non-ssl variant correctly states "http://www.ipv6.sixxs.net/main/" while the ssl link stays "https://www.sixxs.net/main/" when it should be "https://www.ipv6.sixxs.net/main/" so that the base url should be preserved.

Try the trick explained in the Wiki (see the Vista install instructions) to overcome that. Or probably better is either to get non-Teredo connectivity, or to change the priorities inside "netsh int ipv6 set prefixpolicy".
The first page on sixxs, www.sixxs.net" is just the Sixxs logo with some small icons and 2 links, one to http://www.sixxs.net/main and one to https://www.sixxs.net/main.
I'll assume you mean http://www.sixxs.net/ as per the address from the address bar in your browser.
Done.
