Change Tunnel Type - how long?
[gb] Shadow Hawkins on Tuesday, 03 April 2012 16:53:25
If I request a change of tunnel type, how long does it take to process? Is it a fully automated process or is there a stage or two of human involvement (SIXXS, POP)? The reason I ask - If I change to a static tunnel I want to make sure I'm around to implement fairly soon after so I don't lose credits.

Changing tunnel types is automatic (aka require no human approval), but PoP updates are only done every 10 minutes. Note that changing tunnel types currently still costs credits.

Implemented this a few days ago. Changeover went smoothly and the static tunnel was up and running within 15 minutes, but not quite as quick as the 15 ISK deduction ;) One thing I did note - I set up my firewall to permit protocol 41 traffic from the pop IPv4 given in my tunnel details to my public IPv4. The tunnel wouldn't come up until I changed it to accept proto-41 from any. Not working:
ip access-list extended O2_BB_INTERNET_IN permit 41 host 212.113.147.150 host 87.aaa.bbb.ccc permit icmp any host 87.aaa.bbb.bbb echo
Working:
ip access-list extended O2_BB_INTERNET_IN permit 41 any host 87.aaa.bbb.ccc permit icmp any host 87.aaa.bbb.ccc echo
I will have to do some more debugging on this to discover where the return traffic is coming from, but 212.113.147.150 is set as the IPv4 destination for my tunnel.

This appears to be working correctly now. I suspect that the tunnel changeover hadn't happened whilst I was setting up the access-list. I'm now filtering proto-41 from the appropriate POP.
