TAP failing to install under Windows 10

This one may not be an issue for you, but perhaps you've seen an answer. The TAP installer fails, so not much sense in proceeding....
C:\Users\Administrator\aiccu\tap-driver-32_64 (1)\tap-driver-32_64\64-bit>rem Add a new TAP-Win64 virtual ethernet adapter
C:\Users\Administrator\aiccu\tap-driver-32_64 (1)\tap-driver-32_64\64-bit>tapinstall.exe install OemWin2k.inf tap0901
tapinstall.exe failed.
C:\Users\Administrator\aiccu\tap-driver-32_64 (1)\tap-driver-32_64\64-bit>pause
Press any key to continue . . .
Any ideas?

The TAP driver as part of the latest OpenVPN package installed fine to me.
The process/pages seem to need an update wrt Win10.

Hi Jonathon,
Not sure whether this is what caused it to appear to work or not
but try copying the tpinstall.exe from the 32bit or the 64bit folder
( depending on your Windows 10 version ) to the folder
C:\Windows\System32\
When I click on NETWORK ADAPTORS
in DEVICE MANAGER
I now see
TAP-Windows Adaptor V9
after the following command
tapinstall install OemWin2k.inf TAP0901
but I had to do it in full like this>>
tapinstall C:\Users\John\Downloads\tap-driver-32_64\tap-driver-32_64\64-bit\OemWin2k.inf TAP0901
after copying tapinstall to the C:\Windows\System32\
folder as mentioned earlier.
Even though it retuned as "Installation failed"
Windows says the driver is working correctly when I look in
DEVICE MANAGER.
I hope this helps.
Now I'm going to attempt to install the other parts for IPV6.
The above line is in the comments lines of the .inf file as follows
; INSTALL/REMOVE DRIVER
; tapinstall install OemWin2k.inf TAP0901
; tapinstall update OemWin2k.inf TAP0901
; tapinstall remove TAP0901

John

Hi again Jonathan,
Sorry I typed your first name incorrectly last time.
I also meant that the command
returned "INSTALLATION FAILED"
but somehow DEVICE MANAGER states it is working.
To check if you have 32 or 64 bit version of Windows
simply double click on SYSTEM
in CONTROL PANEL and next to "System type"
it will show whether you are running 64 bit or the 32 bit version of Windows.
Best regards,
John

Hi,
if you have a 64 bit system, the driver needs to be signed.
This driver isnt signed, so you have to reeboot with tapping F8 F8 F8 until you see the Startup Settings. Choose Disable driver signature enforcement and after this you can install the driver
This solved my problem.
Greetings Johannes

Or better: install the current driver as delivered by OpenVPN as that one is signed.
