Broken route

I have 2 tunnels, one with uschi03 PoP and one with usbos01 PoP. I test a ping between them every so often to be sure they are up and healthy. Lately if I try to ping between them it fails, this problem began about a week ago but only for a couple hours a day but has been continous for the last 2 days now. As one of the main reasons to maintain these tunnels is to learn IPv6 I am trying to diagnose the problem.
I ran a traceroute from uschi03 to usbos01 and then tried to run traceroutes back from usbos01 to the various points until I located the failure. Where would one go from here?

I don't have a general answer on how you can check connectivity between your 2 sites.., but about the 'ping's:
Similar to IPv4 providers can block ICMP traffic = 'ping's
Unlike IPv4 providers should not block all ICMPv6 traffic as some ICMPv6 protocols are needed (for example icmpv6 type 2 "packet too big" for establishing the max MTU for a connection), but they can still block ICMPv6 echo-reply, (see RFC's) :
