aiccu hang
[de] Shadow Hawkins on Monday, 01 September 2008 13:36:58
Beginning on august 30 on the evening and ending (for me) on september 1 2008 there was problems with aiccu. Tic.sixxs.net was not OK and Aiccu was hanging. Due to this the pc has not booted up to the end and, unlimited, waited on a response from tic.sixxs.net. The work around was to boot in interactive mode and not to start aiccu. Aiccu should have a time out so that continuing the boot process will work. My System is a Linux Fedora 9 and aiccu is started from the init process.

Hi, I have something similar. When I try to start aiccu this time it failes to start and hangs (for 25 minutes now). It is in daemon mode as Jeroen advised above:
root@debpack:~# grep daemon /etc/aiccu.conf
daemonize true
An 'strace' to the aiccu-process keeps repeating this:
sendto(7, "AR\20;KI\243\213 \1\6\20\6\0\6\f\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\2\224\331\330\f\3q\312\300"..., 44, 0, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(5072), sin_addr=inet_addr("192.87.102.107")}, 16) = 44
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, [CHLD], [], 8) = 0
rt_sigaction(SIGCHLD, NULL, {SIG_DFL, [], 0}, 8) = 0
rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, [], NULL, 8) = 0
nanosleep({60, 0}, 0xbfdb0934) = 0
time(NULL) = 1263117255
Attached is an tcpdump file during this. I can't see anything strange about it. What I can see in the dump is that the PoP is responding. PoP info. PoP Name: nlams05 PoP IPv4: 192.87.102.107 TIC, the PoP (and DNS) are online:

Fix your distribution. AICCU can run in daemonize mode, which is the default.

I also saw this, apparently whatever happened to sixxs made aiccu hang much longer than it would if eg, the network were simply down. According to user reports, the hang was > 15 minutes, and probably less than 1 hour. Systems with the problem were running debian stable and unstable, with aiccu configured with "daemonize true". aiccu seems to try to connect to the server *before* it daemonizes. You can see this with strace: socket(PF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_IP) = 4 connect(4, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(3874), sin_addr=inet_addr("193.109.122.244")}, 16) = 0 ... send(4, "QUIT The End Of Love\n"..., 21, 0) = 21 shutdown(4, 2 /* send and receive */) = 0 close(4) = 0 clone(child_stack=0, flags=CLONE_CHILD_CLEARTID|CLONE_CHILD_SETTID|SIGCHLD, child_tidptr=0xb7cfe6f8) = 10911 exit_group(0) = ?
