Has anyone come across an affordable router (below $300 USD) with support for both VPN and IPv6?

Any reasonable router which supports OpenWRT.
I use Asus WL-500G Premium as a home access point and as an OpenVPN endpoint for tunneling IPv6 to a friendly 6to4 gateway to the outside world.
Of course, you need to install OpenWRT and some additional packages and then write some config files to make it work. There is some documentation available on OpenWRT site, but if you have any further questions, feel free to ask me.
There is aiccu package available for OpenWRT, so I'm going to use it for SIXXS tunnel when I get enough credits to request a subnet.

Right now I use a Draytek Vigor 2130 in Netherlands for sale for around 120 euros.
Currently i can not configure sixxs on this router, but in the next firmware (currently in beta) is the option for aiccu available. I have not tested the beta yet.
The router is also provided with Gb ports (WAN/LAN).

Hi,
At this price range you may get reasonably decent second hand Cisco router. And I mean Cisco not Cisco-branded Linksys..
It will do IPv6 and VPN and many other things you may want it to do. It may also be some learning experience if you are generally interested in networking.
I also support the other answers on old PC (or even low-power wrap-type device) with some sort of Linux or BSD installed. There is also lots of router software based on those two ready to be installed and used straight away.

Sergiusz

But be careful with Cisco, wireless and IPv6. I have a 871w and only found one IOS version that supports IPv6 on the wireless interface (only tested using routing mode). In other version the ipv6 command is simply missing.
