Promoting ipv6

If blizzard started offering a special pet or more healing points to users connecting with ipv6, the bosses of the telecoms and ISP's would be under heavy attack of the hordes and alliances of users demanding ipv6 now :-) ebay etc. could offer discount for users with ipv6 On the social networking site, I administer, I have just started giving 7 days of premium status to users connecting via ipv6. I wonder if that will increase the ipv6-percentage of my users above the current level of 0.04%

That could work, but only if properly advertised and instructions provided on how to set up IPv6 or where to get it.

The obvious answer to how to get ivp6 should be "Ask your ISP" And let the consumer make the choice; if ISP A supports ipv6 and ISP B doesn't, let the consumer vote with his feet.

Unfortunately, I know of no DSL or Cable ISPs in Sweden that provide IPv6.. Sweden is a lot about technology, but things like these will never be enabled unless forced from elsewhere =(.

Yes, it did increase. A whopping 16.6%, i.e. 6 instead of 5 out of 14000...

Good idea. I have a forum with about 10.000 users. Unfortunately it is not really easy for the not-so-admin-like-user to switch to IPv6. My forum is about cars so the users do use the internet just as a medium to get to their forum. Very few people would call a day a good day if they got a v6-reply from a ping, like I do. So I would call them normal users. As a normal user you own a router like draytek, avm, dlink and all the other companies. I know just of one soho router to be able to use IPv6 via PPPoE. Even if the Internet providers give you IPv6, not many people want to buy another router. On the other side the router supplier have no need for implementing IPv6 if the providers don't. So people can just use tunnels as we do. But I predict this is too hard for my users. How can I help them to get the door open to v6? Giving IPv6 users additional credits on my forum sounds cool, but helping them to get ready with IPv6 would be even cooler.. best regards Rolf

Hello, there, the first step would be to make your forum ipv6 capable. As i am a new ipv6 (and sixxs) user, i find the ipv6 enabled web sites too few. For a normal user if there is no content available in ipv6 it is a lot easier to stay with his own ipv4 equipment. Why should he bother to invest time an money for a service if there is no content.

well its my first hour with my sixxs tunnel up - but we are doing ipv6 with work and hour biggest reason and the reason why we are moving all our network and all our clients to ipv6 now is REMOTE SUPPORT - ipv6 makes it really easy to do remote support because every computer has a real ip what it does mean however is FIREWALLS need to be configured everywhere.... the firewall training is the next big thing

The idea behind Microsofts Direct Access: use IPSEC AH to verify if packets are allowed into the network, is one of the better ways to go unless you open a IP/port completely. The big trick with that is of course the distribution of the key material, which Microsoft solves by using Active Directory.
