reverse DNS
[de] Shadow Hawkins on Thursday, 26 August 2010 20:44:11
Hi all, I have questions regarding the reverse DNS. My domain is registered at the german provider internetworx (inwx.de) If I will use/setup reverse DNS (Reverse Delegations on the Sixxs page), does the DNS-server from my provider (inwx.de) need an IPv6 address ? Is it possible to use the DNS-Server from internetworx (ns.inwx.de (IPv4 address)), to resolve reverse DNS queries? Are there experience about internetworx provider and IPv6 reverse DNS? I have allready configured AAAA RR at internetworx and that work, but I do not know how configure PTR RR for IPv6? Please help Thanks very much Michael

If you want to have IPv6-only resolving, then Yes. If you expect everything to have IPv4 connectivity then obviously no, and that is generally the case.

See the FAQ, that explains it all.
