Problems with Domain Name Lookup on OS X (Tiger)
Shadow Hawkins on Monday, 05 November 2007 16:59:47
Hi there,
on my iBook I got quite a strange problem with the lookup of ipv6 domains. The tunnel works great, I can connect to ipv6 hosts if I supply the ip.
Resolving domain names works on the command line if I use the host command. But when using ping6 for example domains won't resolve into ip adresses:
soulburn:~ root# host www.ipv6.sixxs.net
www.ipv6.sixxs.net is an alias for noc.ipv6.sixxs.net.
noc.ipv6.sixxs.net has IPv6 address 2001:838:1:1:210:dcff:fe20:7c7c
soulburn:~ root# ping6 www.ipv6.sixxs.net
ping6: No address associated with nodename
Anybody has some ideas what might be wrong?
TIA
Chris

I get the same problem on MAC OS X 10.4, connectivity just works great for me too by supplying the numeric IP format.

Hi,
I somehow solved the problem by entering another DNS in the network pref pane of mac os. since then it works.

I fixed the problem by killing 'lookupd'. Now I can ping6 and browse ipv6 addresses via safari as well.
